Cape Cod Farmers Markets are OPEN for business!

No matter where you live, a farmers' market is not too far away. Farm fresh foods and a cheerful atmosphere should certainly offer something for everyone. From spring until late fall, local growers display their freshly-harvested fruits and vegetables. An array of farm products is often available, including produce, eggs, cheeses, baked goods, honey, jams and jellies, maple products, cut flowers, potted plants, and specialty foods.

          Cape Cod Seafood Secrets.........

This month's issue of Cape Cod Magazine has a feature article entitled "40 Secrets of Seafood" which is really terrific!   It's full of fun   information such as the fact that Wellfleet oysters are descendants of transplanted oysters from CT and Chesapeake Bay.  Who knew?   Ever wonder why lobsters, unlike some other New England seafoods, never seem to be "overfished"?  According to the article,  that's because of the inefficiency of lobster traps - only 6% of lobsters who encounter a trap will ever actually be caught.  Plus the current traps are very easy to escape from - it's a wonder we ever get a lobster on the table at all! :)  Perhaps my favorite "fun fact" is the meaning of the word SCROD - I knew that scrod is not actually a type of fish, but loved the way they give to remember that it is a way to describe the catch of the day: Specially Caught Right Off the Dock!   The article also has tips from local chefs such as the two things people do wrong when making a Newburg sauce or the key to making perfect oyster stew.  Be sure to pick up the magazine to find out for yourself how Yuji Wantanabe, chef/owner of Inaho, chooses his fish! :)

"Northside Fine Foods" Opens in Dennis Village

You might recall around this time last year, I did a video blog  on a new business that opened in the Village - Nancy's Candy, Etc.  (Click on the link in case you missed that one!) Located just west of the Dennis Village post office on Route 6A, Nancy has a new neighbor right next door -  a  gourmet food shop called NORTHSIDE FINE FOODS.  Proprietor Jane Mason says " I truly enjoy perusing through gourmet food shops - wherever I am...and that will reflect in the products you'll find in Northside Fine Foods.  Honey from Savannah, delicate oils from Italy, Black Lava Cashews from Hawaii, exotic dips from an organic farm in Florida."  Here is a video of Jane as she tells you all about her new venture.

If the previous game is too adventurous for you, simply try flapping a blanket in the air above your ferret as if you were fluttering a bed sheet over a mattress. Instead of courting athlete's foot, you should at least try to train your ferret to use a litter box. They come in brown, black, white, or mixed fur with some having a "raccoon like" mask around their eyes.
